The little plastic tabs that hold the thing together can get broken over time so when you lift it out, you want to keep the top an bottom in place so that it doesn't come "unsprung" and end up uncoiling all over the place. Be sure the wheels are straight as well. By taping it in position, you preserve the slack in both directions necessary for proper operation. If you let it unwind in one direction or another and put it back it in, you run the risk of having it over-tighten when turning in one direction of the other and breaking - it's about a $50-75 part on Fleabay, so you don't want to do that. Lifting it out and immediately immobilizing it with a piece of duct tape will keep both unfortunate things from happening.
If you do have it unwind, let us know. You can re-calibrate it pretty easily, I just don't want to spend the 10-15 minute typing how to do it, unless it is necessary!
Don't let any of this throw you - it is NOT rocket science.
