Your VVackness -- this car has a turbo the size of a trash can, and a stand alone engine management system. There is nothing stock retained like BOV or any of the other typical things you would see on a 16 valve.
The speed on the dyno in 5th gear pulling 6600 rpm was 174. So, it's reality and the run sheet from the ECTA event measured to the 10 thousandths of a second over 170 is verification. Like I said, it is #8 gears, and larger OD tires. That's all it takes to make the gearbox capable of 170+ in terms of speed. The engine is far more complicated though to get the 400 hp:-)
The Porsche part numbers were used on the 8 valve car, not the 16 valve as we had two cars at the event. In fact, the Saab 99 shares the same Bosch fuel pump part number as a 930 turbo Porsche, so that's where I got the idea to incorporate more of the Porsche fuel system over to the Saab.
If you are so inclined to put a Porsche gearbox in a Saab, you can take a 914 transaxle and marry it up to a Sonett engine or V6 Ford Tanus with an adapter from Kennedy Engineering in California though......
