Great idea Vern, but I actually did think of that. Unfortunately, the angles and access would not allow it, unless I really tempted fate. It would have taken a very strong abbreviated "L" shaped piece of steel (I thought of a lug wrench -- too short and rounded) to make solid contact with the bottom of pin. And Murphy's Law might have caused a slip that might have wrecked some other bits.
The only thing I could think of, sans removing door, was to place the flat blade of my largest screwdriver on the base of the pin (I siliconed it temporarily in place) and pound on an accessible section next to the screwdriver blade repeatedly with a three pound maul. I really thought this would do it, but in comparison to the pass. side door, it wasn't pushed in deep enough.
