Others might post in on this, but there is what is called the "field wire" = I think this small wire is green stripe and white. It plugs to the alternator. The connector can become loose and fall off or the wire strand gives up and the wire breaks.
The good news is that the alternator / battery light comes on as if the lightbulb is bad, then the alternator does not charge the battery either.
So, you might just have a loose connection. This wire is bundled with the oil pressure switch on the oil filter adapter, so look in that area for the green striped wire connection to the alternator.
