alternator is kind of heavy to lug around everywhere also. I've got 3 spares, but I don't keep one in the trunk. Usually when they go it is just the voltage regulator anyway. I would have guessed crank pulley or similar for this rather than seized alternator. Kind of a nuisance job, but not the end of the world.. I've done a few of them, but never at the side of the road!
