Numerous targeted internet searches on gear and engine oil component additives, namely Magnesium, Calcium and Zinc since they are the ones diverging in the analysis data. Why they are used and what they are intended to do. I'm no expert on any of it but wanted to find out, if possible, why the Honda MTF and Redline MTL might have different compositions. I'm sure there is someone out there who could succinctly answer that question and I'm interested to know. Obviously, Honda and Redline both would lose a lot of business if their gear oils were found to be inferior. So clearly, they must both be excellent. For Honda, their reputation and exposure to losses from transmission failures must be in the billions in lost sales so the fact that their MTF departs in a couple key additives to a highly regarded aftermarket specialty supplier must be for a reason. The fact that their name-branded MTF is much less expensive is also interesting. Surely they could sell it to their customers for much more if they wanted to. Maybe they are indirectly protecting their reputation by selling it cheap enough that their customers won't be tempted to buying possibly inferior lube from the local corner auto parts store? Another question is why they even offer their own branded MTF when other car manufacturers do not? Inquiring minds want to know...
