Hi Bruce,
No the inner fenders and outer fenders are all welded on on a classic 900. I assume you are talking about the big fuse box on the drivers side. There are 3 ways the harness goes. The easy one would be forward towards the headlight and I guess that is not your problem area. The second way is across the firewall towards the passenger side of the car and the last way is straight down and then into the interior of the car.
If your problem area is straight down those actually have 3 large plugs were they go into the body. They can be unplugged and pushed through from inside the car. But I have found the easiest way is to remove the knee bolster under the dash and pull the carpet down in that corner. After that you can unplug the 3 connectors, I think in 86 they were 29 pin connectors and they are 3 different colors I think it is red, black and white. After they are unplugged you can should be able to see the releases to get the plug to come loose. Once the plugs are loose you can pull them up though were the fuse box panel sits in the box. Any questions you have, just ask. Good Luck, Bernie
