Yes, I hear you.

Getting someone like White Post to manufacturer them would cost more than the car is worth.

I sometimes see re-man units on e-bay but they are only as good as the core which as you mentioned are difficult to find in good condition.

An issue with new style is as you mentioned, calipers are getting hard to find plus there is the issue with converting the e-brake to the rear. Also I believe the master cylinder is a two year only part and there are issues finding those.

I saw someone (can't remember where) did a Wilwood conversion but I bet that cost more than the car is worth too.

I am going to have to be like your friend and monitor like a hawk.
