Supposedly, the setup I have (Stage 3 = remapped ECU, K&N air filter, JT 3" exhaust) gives the auto (the Aero and CSE auto's are the same) 247hp. Personally, I think it is much higher. I have literally eaten up and spit out Audi's, M/B's, Bimmer's, GS400's, even a Porsche (I'm not joking!), so I find it hard to believe that that is all I have.
The power output is amazing. And having an auto makes it even better since there is zero turbo lag. I shift my tranny like a stick, keeping it close to 5K rpm's before shifting. Just don't do it in the 1-to-2 shift.
The only 2 things detrimental about having an auto:
1) you can't downshift at very high rpm's (without doing serious damage to the tranny since the torque converter has to spin like crazy at that moment to catch up to engine speed)
2) seriously limited at the top-end since once you're in 4th ("D"), there's nowhere else to go, yet the engine has more to give (really need a 5th gear)
Since your car was well-maintained and only has 80K miles, that sounds like good material for upgrading.
Give the tranny fluid-chages every 10K - 12K miles, watchout for jack-rabbit starts, and be careful with the 1-to-2/2-to-1 shift, and you should be fine.
As for comparison to a stick Aero, I never had the chance to try one out, but I'm assuming what I have exceeds an oem stick Aero, given the fact also that the '98 CSE came with Aero suspension for better handling.
BTW: post your suspension band colors when you get a chance. I'm keeping a record of all that I am told.
