My '95 auto-Aero has an Abbott-upgraded ECU. (not reccomended)
I have also modified the air-intake box, and have a Saber SS cat-back
exhaust. The motor will produce 18 Psi of boost.
It has been measured on a dyno and will make 260 ft-lbs torque
and 224 HP at the drive wheels, probably about 260 HP at the crankshaft.
My Aero has 133K miles, and has had these mods since around 50K.
The weak link in any 9K is the transmission, auto or manual.
I use Mobil 1 synthetic ATF and change it every 10K. I don't allow
the transmission to have full throttle shifts.
I also have a couple more 9Ks, both with 5-speeds. One is a '95 with
an Aero ECU. It has about 225 HP at the crank.
The other one is a '97 CSE with the 200 HP motor.
The combination of an auto and a turbo are a great one.
The torque converter lets the motor jump to 2500 rpm when
you nail the gas, resulting in no turbo lag.
The auto, with it's mods, will out accelerate the other two 9ks
from 0 to 60, unless you really abuse the manuals. Dump clutch
at 3000 rpm and shift real hard at the red-line. Not normal street use.
All you have to do with the auto is to modulate the throttle
to control wheel spin.
Hope this helps with your decision.
