except I've opted for the Infinity Kappa 692.5i instead, not really being into three-ways. ;)
The crossover provided with the new speakers have a 3500Hz transition point, so I've been trying to find out if the stock amp just happens to use that as the break point. Doesn't seem like anyone's looked into it though, so I may try to find out for myself with a signal generator and scope. If it's close to that 3.5kHz, it should work out fine with the direct hookup, bypassing the external crossover they provide with the new speakers. If it's really far off, I'll probably end up just using the new speakers for the low frequency driver, and leave the OEM tweeter connected as usual.
I prefer using the stock setup, so I'm not going to try changing the amp or anything. It'd be nice if there were a switch on the OEM amp to convert the output to a single full range signal rather than the component output, wouldn't it..
