Dextron III is the spec fluid for that transmission.

Classic governor seal failure is demonstrated by the transmission starting out in the wrong gear, but working properly when shifted manually. Normally that means the car starts out in fourth, but there are three or four seals in there (can't remember, it's been awhile) and it's possible one bad one might only affect 2nd gear.

Of course, since your symptoms aren't the classic ones, could be more diagnosis is needed, and governor seals aren't the issue. Do you have any recourse with the transmission supplier and/or installer?

If it's the governor seals, it's an EASY diy project. Perhaps you've been having too much fun????

By the way, thanks for the Saab general manager article. I'm always somewhat suspicious of "general" marketing people, who apply their chops marketing shampoo to marketing cars. But maybe this guy will turn out to be a genius.

However, the fact that he's still beating the SUV product drum now, and that all GM's sales seem to be owing to their "We're Desperate!" sales campaign leaves some room for skepticism. But let's hope for the best!
