I'll try to buy some silicone hoses as suggested, and I will talk with my mechanic next time I'm out there about replacing any hoses that are worn.

I'm a little bit ticked that the saab mechanics couldn't figure out to look at the hoses or the PCV system as David suggested. Geez, I nearly bought a new car because of this! The owner of the place (they also sell used Saabs by the way) said to me that they've never had to chase down anything like that so other than the heater core they weren't sure where to look.

I guess this bulletin board is where they should look! ;)
