Some slack, even when the tensioner is properly set, is normal. A very moderate amount but some is usually present.
It's also normal for things to take a little while to pressurize, particularly with the engine at idle. Also expect your valvetrain to make an unholy racket while the tappets are pumping back up again. Happens to me whenever I have the head off for any length of time.
On the valvetrain racket, let the car sit at idle til it quietens down. Seems to take 45 min to an hour in my experience.
Of course, you may not experience this racket but don't panic if you do.
