Well they do, and aledgedly quite frequently, I know I've had to 'fix' that problem.
The bearing rollers 'flake off' their plating, Brinneling I believe is the term.
Not good, as all those Hard bits go everywhere in the pore trans.
Apparently the results of : old age ;-) exuberant 'loading' of the trans (heavy accelerations.. But hey! we never do that :-) and labouring the thing with yet more mass inertia.
Designed to pull? Hardly, potentially (read Legally) possible .. arguably?
That's just Brochure Babble.. pure and simple.
Remember buying a GM Station wagon.. early 70's.. with the 'Towing Package' There was a LOT of components in it, surprisingly so, and this onto a rock reliable 350 mitt autobox. Towing was considered 'extreme' service. What's changed?
Never seen anything even similar on Any Saab.
How many Beemers OR Mercs you ever see with a trailer?
Just due to owners who consider it too Declasse to tow? or perhaps cuz they know it will hurt their cars?
Either reason could give pause :-)
