"nothing between left and middle" = broken wire in the coil. I'll bet that if you measure the resistance between the left and right pins you will also get no reading (infinite resistance) whereas a working unit should have about six ohms. If it came that way from the supplier, you need to get another one.
On the other hand, if your drive transistors are shorted, feeding a constant voltage to the coils, this will fry them. Unless you can verify that the voltage you see at the connector is pulsating, you are kind of shooting in the dark - however the fact that it increases with RPMs indicates that the duty cycle is changing, so it might be working properly.
