Reality check: the big job they performed didn't fix the problem THAT THEY DIAGNOSED and now your car needs a turbo to fix the problem? I doubt it. OK, I'm not there, but it sounds like EXTREME BS to me that the car ran for 30 miles then died completely; turbos do not typically die like that. Perhaps they forgot to completely tighten something like the chain tensioner, the spark plugs, intake hose, or some other bolts (including the exhaust manifold to turbo bolts)? Maybe they got distracted by the first big snow, ran out of coke, or something....... And a turbo job on a 19 year old car is not worth doing at $2000 any way you look at it. Their pricing is also completely suspect; I did a Google search on "SAAB Turbo" and the first link I found has rebuilt turbos at $525 plus your core; you can find a used part for $200 or less.

I would get your car out of that shop and take it to someone who knows how to fix SAABs. The Aspen Police department used to drive 900 and 9000 Turbos as patrol cars in the 1980s and 1990s, someone in the valley should still remember how to fix them - not the guy you are currently dealing with. Maybe ask the cops who used to fix their cars.

Did you happen to pay for the head gasket job on a credit card? If someone else finds the mistake that the first shop made, it may be possible to challenge some or all of the charge - you will not be well liked by the shop but they are certainly not serving you well.
