I tried this, stripped a few of the T-40 bolts out, got most of them, then threw in the towel. (Locked a big visegrips onto some of them and got them that way, used an air chisel on a few - - nicked into outer edge and then drove them counterclockwise a bit.) Ended up pulling the motor and tranny as a package; there are good instructions on here somewhere.
I know it has been said on here that it's possible. I don't think it is. You have to swing the pan down to clear the oil pickup and other things, and yet the front end of it is held pretty tight between subframe and block. Even removing all motor mounts and other links to the car, I'm not sure you could lift it enough.
I did get that tin cover at tranny end. Once bolts are out it's still jammed in. I set a blunt screwdriver against a spacer that's welded onto the cover at one bolt, and drove it sideways with a hammer. Once it pops through the thing gets free. To reinstall you have to tap it back in same way.
