sam96CS gave you some very valuable information, especially on the leaks!
The "loose steering" feeling may be due simply to a loose pinchbolt on the universal joint of the steering column, just above the floorboard; you may have to pull up a rubber cover to expose this joint - I had this problem on my car when I bought it a few years ago, and tightening this one bolt made a huge difference.
I agree with looking at the rear bushing of the front control arm, which I recently replaced on my 1994 Aero; heavily loaded rubber suspension parts on a 23 year-old car are suspect.
In addition, other causes of loose steering include the outer tie rod ends and the ball joints, which are considered "wear parts" on most cars. Beware that there is a wide variety in quality levels for these parts; personally, I hunted down TRW-branded parts, as they were the original manufacturer (although the parts are now made in Asia vs. Italy). Also look at the "bushing cap" (see picture), which fits between the front control arm front bushings and the front subframe. These can crack and disintegrate, which will allow the front bushing to flop around.
Not sure where you are in the Chicagoland area, but I highly recommend Petersen Automotive in Skokie. I have been taking my SAABs there for 31 years for jobs that I can't or won't do myself. The current owners were techs at a former SAAB dealer and are specialists on these cars - they told me about the pinchbolt issue above.
