02 Viggen, Thanks for following up with more thoughts. Your comment about the leaking hydraulic line rings bells with me. It would account for the clutch seeming to have good pressure when parked, but then having troubles when shifting "for real." I've owned several 9000s over the years, and I do recall one instance where that line got replaced by my mechanic. Unfortunately, I don't remember if it was this 94 Saab that we are talking about! Tonight when my wife gets home from work, I'll have her work the clutch while I look at that line with a good flashlight.
