Quasimotors has a good writeup. The problem is the 2SD1525 transistor used is out of production, but there may be old stock around. I don't know if there is a newer "drop-in" equivalent:

Also, for test purposes I found using an inductive ammeter that an almost-new blower motor was drawing about 25 amps. (Tested in my 1995 CSE not long after a new blower was installed at a Saab shop.)
