I believe it all comes down to 2 things...
1-how few pullys can you deal with
&
2-how tough a time to change belts are you willing to live with
these motors have belt driven water pumps, so the same belt drives the water pump and alt....so, 1 belt, right...nope, the swedes double them up...but in 1981/1982, the 'H' motor was available with a single belt for the alt/water pump...so, you could scavege parts from there, you'll need the harmonic balancer (crank pully) and then you will be without a/c and power steering....but it will fit without modifying the firewall...I've been told. most guys will still mod the firewall, either with a sledge hammer, or by cutting a box out, about 1 square foot, where the harmonic balancer lives.
I know someone will mention that the 'b' motors sometimes had a double pulley (cars with a/c) but the later motors sat a touch further back in the car.
search the web, lots of folks have done it....I'm sure you could even get someone from overseas to send a chunk of a firewall to you, from a late 99 or model 90.
