replaced it with the clock. Which is what's suppose to be in this car. I may continue to search for another tach and see if it's better than the one I have.
Doug, I do (did) exactly as you described when I had a tach. Now I listen for the rev limit when changing gears, which allows me to know where I am. Normally 3k is when to shift, and on my old 99 - 3k rpms but me at 22mph, 37mph and 45-50mph thru the gears. When I'm in 4th gear, I know I'm doing 50mph and up. When I hear the loud hum, I assume I'm cruising at 65mph (but the speedo reads 75 or 80).
When I paced the policeman, I stayed 2 car lengths behind him so I didn't get a good reading. Once the wife gets out the bed and feels up to it, I'll ride side by side with her and check.
Until then, guess I better ride with the flow of traffic. Or take the policeman's suggestion of keeping it 5mph of what my speedo reads.
After going thru tirecalc - it looks as though my readings are to be 9.3% off in the positive range. 55 mph = 62 / 65 mph = 72. I think those are off because he caught me coming off an on ramp curve, merging on to the freeway. There's no way I could have gone from 45 mph out of the curve and up to 73 mph in less than a 1/4 mile.
