There may well be a lot of posts on the EWP here, but there is only a single report of the EWP in practice on a 99 and that came from Craig Richmond, who fitted one to his 99 turbo.
As I had the same problems you mention (with a waterpump that was renewed six months ago) on my carbed ’73 automatic, I bought an EWP and have just finished installing it a week ago (had to wait two months before it arrived in the first place).
You can run the EWP with or without a so called controller, which controls the temperature in sensing it and altering the speed of the pump if necessary. However it requires the removal of the thermostat, which will cause the warming up period to become longer. In my mind that is an unwanted situation. I chose to run the EWP continuously, which requires the drilling of a 5 mm hole in the thermostat, but even in this case (with current winter conditions) the warming up period is doubled when compared to the original setup. When normal operation temperature is reached, the temp gauge needle more or less stays around the “N”, yet fluctuates more than you are used to. Some consider this to be an unwanted situation as well, which was probably the reason why the controller was developed.
Now I am looking into ways to speed up the warming up period. A kind of a rheostat switch might help. Mounting an on-off switch and turning the EWP off until the engine has reached it normal temperature may be too risky.
You can find lots of information on the EWP on the manufacturer’s site (search for Craig Davies EWP).
You are lucky in having a ’76, so you can follow all the instructions on Mark Jeter’s site.

In my ’73 the master cylinder and brake booster are in the way, so I had to find a different place for the EWP. I mounted it behind the left lower section of the radiator, which was modified to a crossflow system with the outlet moved from top to bottom. The additional plumbing to make it all fit (I have an oil cooler and LPG-system as well) was extensive. I won’t bore you with the details...
