Well, the heater didn’t do anything at all, which was probably my own fault as I still have to bleed it...
As far as the controller is concerned, I definitely think I need one because the system is obviously too efficient now, which is not remarkable when you know that the EWP moves water at nearly 1300 gallons per hour at full 12V. In contrast, stock waterpumps move only 300-600 gallons per hour at idle.
The electronic controller module (circuit board with microprocessor and programmable chip) maintains engine temperature by controlling the flow-rate of the EWP. It does not supply any voltage to the pump until about 70°C when it kicks in with PWM (pulse width modulation) – 2 secs on, 5 secs off. At about 80°C it supplies a constant 4 V which ramps up to full system voltage as and when required, arriving at and holding the target temp. When I’ve installed this controller, I will report about the results. Hopefully it will not take another two months before I receive it...:-(
