As it stands, I think re-doing the master cylinder might make most of my problems go away. My "new' caliper is heating up the rotor again, making it get pretty hot, and hopefully having a brake pedal that springs back to the "off"position when you are done with it will fix that.

Right now i am using the car very sparingly, and when my 900 is back on the road, it will be a second car anyway. I am replacing all the ball joints/bushings/shocks as well, so I do have plans underway to make the car safe and yes, stop on a dime. Right now it stops on a half-dollar and I am wise enough not to use it around town.. Most of my diriving has been highway when there is little or no traffic.

The reason that I got into this problem was because the original transmission broke into pieces and was un-repairable. An early 70's 99 transmission was impossible to find back in '94, although there was no internet around then. Seeing that I have a good m76 99 trans in it now, I have no reason to change it to something that might be impossible to find, or simply too expensive. Late 99 parts and 900 bits are much more plentiful.. I even had a bitch of a time just finding the flexible brake lines for the front of my '73. Thankfully that one has remained stock.

Still no one has really been able to tell me if upgrading the rear calipers to match the front ones (year-wise) is a better idea than rebuilding the current rear brakes. Again, if the master cylinder is pumping nasty rusty brake fluid or there is blockage in a line, that might explain why some calipers aren't working as well as others.
