If you can do at least some prep work yourself, removing the trim, bumpers, lights and things you dont want overspray on that will help quite a bit, if you can sand the body of the car, not to bare metal but remotely an even surface that will help even more, the maaco guys just wont do this well, you will be disappointed unless your ten feet away from the car, also the paint that they use is thick and terrible looking, i believe it is a cheap enamel. They will however make your car one color for whatever they charge, and your tires and the rubber around the windows, ive also seen where the painter didnt want to bend down to paint the lower edges of a volvo 240 so you could see the primer, he got the rubber on the bumpers and the exhaust tip for no extra charge.
Earl Scheib is worse, these guys can paint but they dont get paid for quality, you could try showing them your car and asking what you can do first to make it easier for them, talk to the painter first. They wont want to be wrenching on your old car. I can see that the grill/headlight area on a late 96 would be annoying to paint without being removed, also the doors window frame, mirrors, light housings, bumpers, anything not going to be painted will look better if you put it back on the after its painted rather than masking around it. you could also elimidate the rear side marker lights by filling the little holes in. Good luck hope this helps some.
