for the money, I would consider the gamble Posted by DougM [Email] (#211) [Profile/Gallery] (more from DougM) on Thu, 14 Sep 2006 05:13:22 In Reply to: Re: my '73 saab 95's painting and pricing, lee, Wed, 13 Sep 2006 10:14:01 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
paint and materials will cost him plenty, so his profit from labor isn't much. Even if he does a half-arse job, your car will be all one color, and at least have a good "base" on it for a future "high-end" job.
I haven't read the other posts to see how much dent filling the body needed, but having him spray it and clear it will make the car shine, and any ding or dent that was missed will show....as well as any body filler shrinkage that occurs down the road. This is a perfect opportunity to let the new paint settle in, and let shrinkage occur. Future paint jobs will be far easier since every imperfection will stand out, unless of course you are painting it white.
Give him a shot. Like Ray says, if he does a great job for cheap money, that's good cheap advertising for him.
Also ask him for extra paint, just in case you need to brush touch any chips that occur while re-assembling, or from road debris.
