Take the car to Walter Wong (La Cienega and the 10). He specializes in Saabs and is very good and will tell you the good and bad.
My 97 900se turbo automatic that has been very good to me.. so far, but I only have 52k miles on it. Expect some shakes and rattles here and there -most of these cars have them - part of their "personality".
Good luck,
