any car companies about reliability. There's only surveys. I haven't had my 9-3 long enough to really gauge long term reliability. Short-term reliability has been fine. Also, I'm surprised that you think the WRX has the rear seat room of the 9-3. I can sit in the back of the 9-3, with the front seat adjusted for me, and I can sit very comfortably. I cannot do the same in the WRX. I've never been in a Passat (it's too bland looking and doesn't have the performance or the utility of a 9-3; and the 2-year warranty scared me).
Concerning the stereo, different manufacturers concentrate on different things. VW tends to add tons of features to their cars, but lacks on performance. Saab is the opposite: adds performance but can lack some features. Personally, I'd hate a stereo that had cassettes, as I have no cassettes and never will. The WRX has a 6-CD in dash changer. That would rock! However, aside from the engine and the CD changer, the rest of the car is pretty flimsy. For BMW, you have to fork out another $200 for a single, in-dash CD player. Talk about a ripoff!
Anyway, each manufacturer concentrates on adding certain things to their cars. If you like what Saab has to offer, then buy it. Personally, I think the combination of styling, utility, price, and sportiness are a good combination as compared with VW, Audi, BMW, etc.
