Decisions, Desicions!

I was in your shoes last winter and spring as I was seriously eyeing the 9-3 and the S60. For the longest time I had my heart set on a Black 01 S60 T5. In my quest, I test drove various cars including the Viggen, S60 T5 and the Acura TL Type-S. I found that they all had wonderful attributes and that I would be happy owning any one of them.

I first test drove the Viggen and was impressed with the acceleration and not too impressed with the torque steer and body lean in the corners.

I then test drove the T5 that I longed for, and was impressed with the looks, ergonomics, and handling. What a beautiful car!
It felt more solid, had less body lean, and less torque steer. Though, I was disappointed with the acceleration as compared to the Viggen. I assumed with 14 more HP, I would get a better kick in the pants feel than with the Viggen. I guess the reason is probably that the Viggen has more torque.

I purchased the Viggen in june and did so for the following reasons:

1. Greater rush of power (Fun Factor)
2. Mean looking in Black though, not as pretty as the T5
3. A very roomy hatchback
4. Rarer

Now, I know you are not considering the Viggen or the T5 though, I wanted to share my feelings on the how I made my decision. It comes down to who you are and what you trully want out of a car. The Viggen's thrust and engine won me over as I appreciate bursts of acceleration. Had I been more of a person who looks for a prettier, less querky, and comfortable, yet quick car, I probably would be driving the S60.

As for the rattles and quality of the S60, it's too early to tell how they will fair with time. I heard from some friends who know Volvos that they are having front end problems. A great car though!

Good Luck!
