The first time I brought my 9-3 to the dealer (just recently) for the 30k service & some warranty fixes, one of the things they needed to replace was the button on the steering wheel "seek" button. I have the leather sport steering wheel. They replaced the part & it works, but, the new part they put in has a gouge from what looks like a screwdriver on it. I figured I was being anal, too, but it's very noticeable, and it's a pretty expensive steering wheel & it just burns me up that the old non working piece, was perfect, and now the new working piece had a defect. I felt stupid mentioning it, but when the dealer called to inquire about my service experience, I mentioned it. He had a pause, then said they'd replace it. I forgot to mention it last week when I had the car back in but forgot. So I had to feel stupid mentioning it again, now when I bring the car back when a piece is in, I have to mention it again. Geez. But, cars aren't cheap and why should they get away with sloppy work? My mechanic (non warranty Saab work) has taken care of my 900S for 12 years and never put any marks on it that weren't already there. I baby my cars, too, and that's unacceptable no matter how minor. Why should you have to repair & fix up stuff on your car after your dealer messed it up? What if in your attempt to fix it yourself you make a mistake & make it worse? Then the dealer won't wanna fix it.
It's obviously bothering you enough to have brought it up here, taken a picture and posted it. So, if I were you, I'd mention it to the dealer, so at least maybe in the future, they'll be more careful with your car. And if its any consolation, if feeling this way makes us anal, then welcome to the anal Saab owners club!! Ha ha ha!!! :) Lets all join forces! Ha ha. Oh, one last thing...this same dealer when my 900S was still under warranty 12 years ago, I took it there because a horn button wasn't working. Back then Saabs had a horn button on each side of the steering wheel. They replaced it, but put a button on that had a yellow horn on it. The button on the other side had a white horn on it. So, I complained & had them fix it. It looked AWFUL and I had to look at it each time I sat in my car to drive it. That was unacceptable. I mentioned it to my non warranty mechanic (he's the BEST Saab mechanic around) and he said he never would have put mismatched buttons on.
But, for what it's worth, I don't think it's being anal at all. They try to strive to provide good service and keep ya happy ... are ya happy??
Sorry so long. Did you call them??
