as someone who might be going on to grad school soon, and recently purchasing a 2000 9-3 I would have to say its a good choice. I would tend to worry about the cost of repairs, but I'm used to it after owning a 900 turbo with over 200k miles. I bought mine with a warrantee, basically for the reasoning that by the time the warrantee is out, I should be done school and have most of the car paid off. So I can then get rid of the car, or hopefully not worry too much about repairs, as I'll be working by that time again.
For a student, and as someone who just moved yesterday, the 9-3 is great for packing up all your belongings.
As for cost, the 9-3's are more affordable than said accord with similar miles, plus I have a certain addiction to saabs, and didn't want to settle for a car I wouldn't enjoy.
Hope some of this helps, and good luck with the search. Also, I bet you can find some 9-3's with either less milage or less money. Just keep looking.
