I agree with others that costs of basic maintenance and repair will be higher with a Saab. My 2000 9-3 is going in for its first "major service" -- 30,000 miles -- on Thursday, and the mechanic gave me the heads up that this will be a $400-$500 job. Not cheap, but in the long run it probably makes for a happier life with a Saab.
If the many replies to your query have tipped you toward a 9-3, I suggest you prowl around for a better price than what you've seen thus far. We drove an hour and got a great deal on ours: $12,900 for a 9-3 with 27,000 miles, a year of factory warranty remaining, two brand new tires, brand new pads and rotors on the front, and maintenance records too. Ours was one of four they had available at that moment, and their weekly ads indicate their supply continues ...
