Hey,
Yea, my 9-3 is in top notch condition, probably the most perfect '99 out there (up there with yours ;))
Its in that kind of condition because I am EXTREMELY fussy, which is also why the knob thing bothers me alot. The vent distribution knob binds up and breaks. This is due to the heater box. The dealer fixed it 4 times by doing the "band-aid" fix of simply relubing it, rather than the permanent solution of an updated heater box. It'd cost me $800+ to have it done out of warranty. The whole dash comes out. (That also scares the sh*t outta me, I know they won't put it back as nice as it came from the factory.) The car goes in next week to see if it qualifies for goodwill assistance now that my warranty is over...but even if it does qualify, I bet they do the "half-ass" fix again.
I suppose I could get a manual, and do the "band-aid" fix myself once per year. I dunno.
Spring is coming and I wanted to do some more upgrades to the car, but when stupid problems like this knob thing keep resurfacing, I don't want to invest in the car.
About the 9-5, saabusa shows the ballon payment purchase offer currently in NYS is 399/mo for an Arc sedan...I was wondering if I could haggle an Aero down to that, as these cars don't exactly sell like hotcakes. I suppose I could also get an Arc, and upgrade the suspension, and maybe even surpass Aero handling anyway. Also, of course, I could keep my almost perfect 9-3 and chalk up having the fix the knob once per year to a loveable SAAB "quirk".
Also, I heard you are moving to NJ? If so, you aren't too far from Long Island, and you should meet up with our little Long Island SAAB owners group sometime. You'd fit right in, we are all meticulous bastards ;).
