Yes, and removal does not open the refrigeration loop.
There is clutch power lead and connector near the rad end tank/shell. If you disconnect that, there would be an open circuit to ground if the switch has failed [open]. If the switch is good, an ohm meter would see the resistance of the clutch coil. Some have jumpered power to that lead to see if that gets the compressor engaged. Note that a low state of charge pressure will lock out the compressor because the pressure switch, at the drier reciever infront of the rad, will have an open circuit, in pins 1&2 I believe. When re-charging, that switch will soon close and re-charging can proceed as normal from there. But if air has gotten into the system, DIY re-charge kits will not solve the problem.
