It sound more like your t-stat is stuck open, rather than closed which would make it overheat. Buy a t-stat and pentosin pink coolant and wait for the next day over 50 degrees. that t-stat is located on the driver side of the block near the rear of the head. its not rocket science and can be done in an afternoon. drain the lower hose. i think you just remove the hose to t-sat housing and two 13 mm bolts. use many and all extensions and swivel joints becasue they are a pain. HERE IS HOW TO TEST YOUR T-STAT. drop old and new t-stat in pot of water. look at temp stamped on it. put a thermometer in water. t-stats should open at that temp. Unlike my VW which "pops" at stamped temp, the saab t-stat opens slowly (or not at all if it was broke like mine). Splurge a few bucks and add new coolant.
