What I'm thinking now is that since I just had my water pump changed the day before this happened, that maybe the belt wasn't put back on properly. There were signs of the belt being lose, as when I bought the car the first thing I noticed was a very slight whining coming from it, which I assumed I just needed to tighten it. Regardless the mechanic should have had it taken care of after the water pump change right? Anyway I can only thank god that there wasn't any real damage done....at least none I've seen yet. I say I was goin' about 55 when the belt came off and never went any faster the rest of the way afterwords. As for not overheating, the only explanation I can think of as why I didn't is that it was raining...at first I cursed the rain since I've got no back window right now, but now I'm very glad for it.
Anyway, I've had my car at the mechanic since the morning after it happened. I took it to the closest place, a Pep Boys far from home, since I just stopped and stayed at my girlfriend's house that night, knowing my car would not make it another 25 miles home. I'm assuming they don't know what they're doing, as they're the ones who told me I have the wrong pulley in the first place.......a bell should have went off when the guy spelled out "Sabb" on the paperwork haha. My new plan is to get out of their and to someone who knows what they're doing.
Thanks for all the input guys!
