If a car has been standing outside overnight, I could probably create the same stains on all of them by starting up the engine and stepping on the accelerator.
If your engine has not been running right due to the fault code being triggered you probably have more soot built up inside the exhaust system than it should be.
It's just that none of us has ever seen that sensor go bad and that's why they try to make you look at other avenues.
