UPDATE: crankshaft position sensor Posted by Kristjan [Email] (#1852) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Kristjan) on Mon, 27 Jun 2011 10:31:08 In Reply to: Car runs with 3 cylinders only--on a road trip in Utah, Kristjan [Profile/Gallery] , Sat, 25 Jun 2011 21:16:31 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Alright, was able to take the car to a workshop this morning, and two codes came up: one for the crankshaft position sensor and one related to the DIC.
The mechanic thought it would make most sense to first try with a new sensor and then see if I need a DI cassette too. He'll have the new sensor in early tomorrow morning. Do you guys think there would be a chance that the DI cassette would not be the main culprit in this case?
My options are:
1. Wait till tomorrow morning. If problem is solved with the new sensor, I'll get out of here and reach my destination in Colorado the same evening.
2. Wait till tomorrow morning. If the problem is NOT solved, order a new DI cassette and wait for a few days more.
3. Order a new DI cassette right away and wait here for a few days for it to arrive. If the problem was caused by the DIC in the first place, then things will be ok and I can continue my journey.
4. Order a new DI cassette right away, but if problem is solved before it arrives I will either need to wait here for the DI cassette or arrange someone to ship it to me from here or then just leave it here and pick up on my way back after 10 weeks. (Though by now I think I want to join the people carrying a spare DI cassette in the trunk all the time...)
It's a fun exercise to put likelihoods on each scenario, isn't it?
Thanks for all your help so far!
Kristjan
