Short story is:
you chose the wrong model of Saab to replace your '89 900S
you bought a 10+ year old car with no warranty
you didn't get a PPI
you didn't have a good plan for what to do if it broke down
you want to dumb down the Viggen to make it what you really want
you say you did research yet you think the Viggen uses special fluids, must be treated like a princess and is not practical
you like the 9-2X better than the Viggen
you probably should have bought a Subaru
Just to clarify for other folks reading this, the Viggen uses the exact same fluids as every other Saab coming off the assembly line at the time. Bad MAFs destroy just as many base and SE models as it does Viggens. The Viggen SHOULD be low and streamlined. More downforce at speed, plus better looks. Good mechanics are hard to find no matter what make of car you have. The Viggen does not have to be babied. Mine has 110k on it. -65F cold starts, WOT runs up long mountain passes at -55F all day long, up and down and up and down and up the Alaska highway dodging potholes (hit a few!), burn-outs whenever possible, etc. No major issues yet. The Viggen is VERY practical. 35MPG on the freeway, 600 mile range, fastback with folding seats. My last two car purchases have been V8-powered Audis and I still like having the Viggen around...
