Well, did some more research, and was reminded that there are side impact airbags and they are on the seats.
There also appears to be side impact sensor attached to the driver's side door. Ironically, this sensor appears to be right around the area of the impact. The airbags never deployed and no airbag lights were seen until after the body shop replaced the door. I'm not sure how the system works, considering the car was off and unoccupied during the collision.
I think the main point I need to make now is for this shop to be honest and actually get to the bottom of the problem and fix it. In order to do that, I need to know what , besides a tech2, can read airbag codes. I was under the impression it was ONLY a tech2 , which was when I took the car to my Indy here to have two sensors replaced and everything reset.
I'm pretty sure the body shop didn't hook the car up to any saab computer, yet they claimed within 2 hours of me leaving that they knew it was the "clock spring".
