I have a '99' 9-3 base and just picked up a 2000 9-3SE auto. The base car is a 5 speed and has a Stage 1 with suspension upgrades. Fast, fun and a little rough. The SE is stock, smooth and very pleasant to drive. Love all the doo dads. Power seats, ACC etc. Both have had HG jobs and issues with the air blend systems repaired. The base model heater box was a 2 day job. Air box position control is still fairly light and smooth. Temp control is stiff and not very precise. Broke another knob the other day. I would look for the heater system having been upgraded if you get a base car. Look for 2 keys with working fobs. The SE had its oil pan off and cleaned. I think the PO installed a coarser pickup screen. I'm near a half dozen Pick-n-pulls which is a huge benefit. I did the HG on the base car @ 69K and the top of the engine was very clean. That PO said he did 3K oil changes and it looked like it. Dealt with that car by using synthetic oil only.
