I've been looking for weeks, but I am not able to find the answer to my question, though it's pretty elementary...

Car: 1999 Saab 9-3 SE Convertible, with AS3, 6 speaker audio.
Head unit: Parrot Asteroid Classic, 1 DIN model.

The head unit connects to four speakers in the car's corners via the harness, and that works fine. It also 4 has pre-amp RCA outputs for FR, FL, RR, and RL speakers, that should be connected to an amplifier.

The two door speakers are connected to an amplifier, Saab part number 4488003. In the original, stock, setup the amplifier connects to the head unit with a 8 pin din cable. The pins are: FL speaker, FR, RL, RR, Ground, Amp On, Mute. The eight is not connected. I have a din to RCA adapter cable.

Connecting the pre-amp outputs on the head unit, via the RCA-to-din adapter cable is not working. (I also tested with iPod output). I did open the passenger side kick plate where the amplifier is, verified that all the connections are OK.

I learned that the amplifier is connected to power on "always hot" circuit. Meaning it gets power even when the car is off, key out. I verified with a multi-meter that it gets power, always. But, of course, it can't be on all the times or it would drain the battery.

So my question is: how does the amplifier gets turned on and off!? The "Amp On" pin on the din connector seems to be for "remote control" only. Or is that it? If so, how to connect it? I tried connecting that pin to "Ground", but still does not work?

Secondary question: how does one test if the amplifier is working?

Has anyone successfully use the original Saab AS3 amplifier with an after market head unit?
