with making recommendations. "Toast" conveys little as to the failure mode. I'll assume the belt broke. If so, whoever just replaced it would be hard-pressed to shirk responsibility for improper installation unless you asked them to skip doing the pulleys or something like that. There are a couple of flukes that can result in the same result like the crank pulley shearing off it's key or the cam sprockets breaking (can't recall the error that leads to the latter). Another is the rubber seal on the timing cover getting sucked into the belt.
In any event, it takes more than a glance under the hood to verify bent rods. My belt broke under it's prior ownership and there was no damage beyond the top-end. Repairing what you have may make the most sense. I got the parts from eEuroparts at very competitive prices.
