Leaks are common when changing from mineral oil to fully synthetic. Apart from doing an excellent job cleaning all the old deposits from the engine and seals, synthetic will also find any areas that have hardened on old seals and unfortunately may find its way past at these points.
Seems to vary from car to car and usually is nothing more than a weep rather than a leak that causes significant oil loss. On our current cars, both (Saab and Volkswagen) have weeping which started after changing to synthetic (82K on Saab, 46K on Volkswagen). Neither actually needs oil in between services (at European intervals of 10K miles).
Previous cars have had the change at lower mileage (both just over 30K) and both developed larger leaks that would leave stains on the ground.
Despite these side effects, the additional benefits of fully synthetic over mineral or semi-synth make me consider it to be worthwhile.
