Hi,
No problems if you switch to Mobil 1 or to Amsoil. If you _really_
want to play it safe, you can switch to Motul or Redline.
Difference is Mobil 1 and Amsoil are group IV whereas Motul and
Redline are group V.
Group V is polyolester.
Pure Group IV oil causes seal leakage. That is why Mobil 1 contains
esters to cause seal swell.
Don't run synthetic blend for 10,000 miles.
Mobil 1 or Amsoil are fine choices which will not cause leakage.
Problem with older engines and older synthetic formulations was
lack of seal swell compounded by sludge plugging up gaps in old engines.
When group IV oil with good detergent packages were first used, seals
didn't swell and the old sludge which was plugging up the gaps in
seals were washed away.
Even in older engines, you want the detergency, and newer group IV
oils have good amounts of esters added specifically for improved
viscosity index and seal swell.
So, go for it! Newer synthetic oil will be good for your old engine.
thanks
jae
