IIHS data good, but conclusions often suspect

I have been following IIHS data for well over a decade now, as well as their interpretations. On average, their results do show superior results in larger vehicles, but they ignore the outliers in their assessments. I never saw them question why a certain vehicle significantly outperformed others in their class. For cars that did significantly worse, such as the Corvette, they did comment once about probable driving style.
As a Saab owner, I look at their data differently. Their data on Saabs show without a doubt that it's possible to build a safer small car.
I think that IIHS has dropped the ball. Unfortunately, their conclusions get published in the lay press, but their data rarely do. I just look at their data now and completely skip their commentary. This is poor science on their part.
