before making categorical statements like that.
Fact: Lotus Elise is a revolutionary car with an extremely light and rigid body made of bonded (with a unique glue) aluminium instead of welded steel. This means the car weighs so little that with just a 120 hp engine it can do 0-60 in 5.9 seconds. The low weight and high rigidity also means the Elise handles like a go-kart. It is made for one thing and one thing only: To handle well. Comfort and looks took a back seat.
The MR2 is a much much heavier car and uses old fashioned construction and this combined with a low output engine makes it pretty slow.
The notion that those two cars should be the same is hilarious and shows obvious ignorance.
Finally, the Lotus Elise is *not* a new car just because it hasn't been exported to the US until now.
I wonder what you would say, if someone told you that your Viggen is an Opel Vectra with a fancy engine? It's actually a lot closer to the truth than your statement regarding the Elise.
