Your assumption, although implicit, is that high wages causes high prices. Even if the mechanics were making six figures ($100k), that only accounts for half of the $95/hr price.
I know mechanics at the local (MA) Saab dealer that don't get 6 figures - and none of them have big ocean boats or mansions with 2 or 3 exotic cars in the driveway (all of which, the local Saab dealer does possess). I certainly don't begrudge a mechanic because he's making more salary than I am, and that's, essentially, the implications of this 'theory'. Free market jargon and supply and demand arguments make no attempt to explain this 'theory', either. Does anyone really believe that the hyper-inflation experienced in Germany before WWII was due to workers getting too much money? Yet, this is the 'theory' that many economists use to divert attention away from who benefits and who loses when prices spiral upwards. The relation between prices and wages certainly is an important issue for workers - the dogma that passes as 'theory' by the free marketeers goes a long way in explaining why workers are so divided when it comes to organizing themselves, collectively, to better themselves, financially. If the Saab mechanic is able to wrest more wages and benefits from his employer, I say more power to him/them.........let the free marketers dogmatic rants begin!
